Britney sets record setting jump on Billboard Hot 100

Britney Spears makes a near-maximum 96-1 rise with "Womanizer," returning to the top of the list for the first time since her debut single "...Baby One More Time" hit No. 1 in January 1999.

This is the third time in the past two months that the mark for the biggest jump to No. 1 has been shattered. On the Hot 100 dated Sept. 6, T.I. soared 71-1 with "Whatever You Like" and last week he sprinted 80-1 with "Live Your Life."

Spears' single is spurred by first-week download sales of 286,000, the biggest opening-week tally by a female artist since Nielsen SoundScan began tracking digital downloads in 2003, besting Mariah Carey's take for "Touch My Body" by just over 200 units.

In between her nearly 10-year gap between No. 1s, Spears has placed four other top 10s on the Hot 100, the last being "Gimme More," the first single from her last set, "Blackout." That song jumped 68-3 last October with first-week download sales of 179,000.

"Womanizer" previews Spears' sixth studio set "Circus," due Dec. 2 via Jive.

Machine Head are proud to announce the release of the special edition version of The Blackening, their Grammy-nominated masterwork. Hailed unanimously as the best metal album of 2007 by journalists, metal radio stations and fans alike, it earned a Grammy nomination for the fan-favorite track, "Aesthetics of Hate" and all the while Machine Head continue to earn "the hardest working band" title with over 19 months on the road in support of The Blackening (with 5 U.S. tours alone) and no signs of stopping soon.

The Blackening Special Edition is two disc CD/DVD set that will feature an assortment of extras, including rare bonus tracks such as covers of Iron Maiden's "Hallowed Be Thy Name", over an hour of live performance footage from With Full Force, Download and Rock in Rio festivals, three uncensored music videos for "Aesthetics of Hate," "Now I Lay Thee Down" and "Halo," a "making of" featurette on each video, "The Making of The Blackening" and expanded artwork. LINKIN PARK To Release 'Road To Revolution' CD/DVD In November

Multi-platinum two-time Grammy-winning rock band LINKIN PARK has announced a November 25 release date for "Road To Revolution" (Machine Shop Recordings/Warner Bros. Records), an action-packed CD/DVD combo featuring 18 of the group's biggest hits recorded live in concert.

The double-disc set captures the band's June 29, 2008 show at the Milton Keynes National Bowl during the sold-out European leg of this past summer's Projekt Revolution tour. LINKIN PARK's Projekt Revolution has become one of the summer concert season's annual heavyweights and the Milton Keynes gig — played to a packed house crowd of almost 50,000 people — was the biggest in the tour's six-year history.

"Over the course of the past few years, we've played more than two hundred Projekt Rev shows to hundreds of thousands of fans, and while each of those gigs has been special, the Milton Keynes show has been one of the most memorable," says LINKIN PARK co-lead vocalist Chester Bennington. "It was one of those nights where the band and audience come together as one, and we wanted to share that experience with the fans that couldn't be there."

Packed in recyclable eco-friendly materials, "Road To Revolution" features hidden bonus tracks and an eye-popping multi-page booklet that includes exclusive, never-before-seen live photos. The CD/DVD set highlights a mix of new hits, including latest single "Leave Out All The Rest", classic tracks such as "Breaking The Habit" and "Crawling" and two special performances — "Jigga What/Faint" and "Numb/Encore" — featuring Grammy-winning rapper Jay-Z. In 2005, "Numb/Encore" was awarded a Grammy for "Best Rap/Sung Collaboration."

"Road To Revolution" track listing is as follows:

01. One Step Closer

Linkin Park Cancels Asia Tour

Linkin Park has been forced to cancel their upcoming Music For Relief Concerts in Mainland China, Macau and Taipei as lead vocalist Chester Bennington has sustained a back injury and is under doctor's orders to refrain from traveling or any physical activities. Linkin Park sincerely regrets this unavoidable cancellation and apologizes to fans for any disappointment caused. Tickets will be refunded at point of purchase.

The concerts were organized as fundraisers to benefit Sichuan, an area ravaged by a devastating earthquake this past May. However, thanks to generous donations from concert promoter Emma Ticketmaster and Linkin Park, funds will still be contributed to the band’s nonprofit organization, Music for Relief, and matched by the World Bank. These funds will benefit post-earthquake reconstruction projects in the Sichuan Province initiated by Chinese Civil Society Organizations.

The cancelled shows are as follows:
Oct. 12 - Shanghai, China - Shanghai Stadium
Oct. 15 - Wuhan, China - Xinhua Stadium
Oct. 17 - Taipei, Taiwan - Taipei Soccer Stadium
Oct. 19 - Beijing, China - Beijing Workers Stadium

Lars Ulrich Speaks about Sound Quality of new album

“Listen, there’s nothing up with the audio quality. It’s 2008, and that’s how we make records. [Producer] Rick Rubin’s whole thing is to try and get it to sound lively, to get it to sound loud, to get it to sound exciting, to get it to jump out of the speakers. Of course, I’ve heard that there are a few people complaining. But I’ve been listening to it the last couple of days in my car, and it sounds fuckin’ smokin’.

“Somebody told me about [people complaining that the Guitar Hero version of Death Magnetic sounds better]. Listen, what are you going to do? A lot of people say [the CD] sounds great, and a few people say it doesn’t, and that’s OK. You gotta remember, when we put out …And Justice for All, people were going, ‘What happened to these guys, this record? There’s no bass on it. It sounds like it was recorded in a fuckin’ garage on an eight-track.’ And now …And Justice for All is sort of the seminal Metallica record that supposedly influenced a whole generation of death-metal bands. The difference between back then and now is the Internet.

“The Internet gives everybody a voice, and the Internet has a tendency to give the complainers a louder voice. Listen, I can’t keep up with this shit. Part of being in Metallica is that there’s always somebody who’s got a problem with something that you’re doing: ‘James Hetfield had something for breakfast that I don’t like.’ That’s part of the ride.

“I will say that the overwhelming response to this new record has exceeded even our expectations as far as how positive it is. So I’m not gonna sit here and get caught up in whether [the sound] ‘clips’ or it doesn’t ‘clip.’ I don’t know what kind of stereos these people listen on. Me and James [Hetfield] made a deal that we would hang back a little and not get in the way of whatever Rick’s vision was. That’s not to put it on him - it’s our record, I’ll take the hit, but we wanted to roll with Rick’s vision of how Metallica would sound.” (Blender)
